I am humbled to have an accidental skill set (bee caretaking*) that allows me to start my day with a cup of tea on a hill country drive in a big truck that floats down the road like a sofa to support interesting, passionate people on their personal adventures.

I share because I had my dream job for 10+ years. One that let me make a difference in people’s lives while traveling across three countries. And yet, I had no idea something even better was possible.
I have a radically different lifestyle now, that baffles most people, because there is no concise, sensible answer to “what do you do”. I’m completely comfortable with that. I do what makes me happy and what’s fun. And when that’s stops being true I’ll do something else.
Along the way, I’m learning how to give of myself without giving it all. I am making myself happy while making others happy. This new approach fills my cup vs leaving me feeling depleted. I wish I'd learned this lesson during my conventional professional career. I’m still meeting amazing people, going to beautiful places and making a difference in a new way. All my career, personal development was about strengths and weaknesses. It was never about the unknown!
Schedule time to give yourself a different kind of annual review. Ask yourself - what might I learn that I’ve never experienced that could have value and bring me joy. Give yourself permission to have seemingly crazy ideas that nobody would understand.
It wasn't until I made this kind of space in my life that new things started showing up around every corner. You might be surprised that a mid life or career course change could reveal adventures you never imagined!
With love and gratitude and a curious spirit...I’m asking myself what don’t I know today that might change my next chapter! It’s kind of addictive.
*Words matter. My bees keep me…not the other way around. I look at my role as their caretaker. It’s not all that dissimilar to professional leadership. Every colony is a complete team. It’s my job to listen carefully to what they need and either create conditions for them to thrive on their own or offer support when needed. AND…like leading, none of these teams is exactly like the other. So, I’m constantly listening, learning and applying my experience.
