Texas Sassy Bees is a passion project, not a profit play.
After years of leading organizations with bottom lines and board meetings, this chapter is about meaning, not margins. Having lead for-profit and nonprofit organizations, Texas Sassy Bees is a breakeven passion project. It is about sharing knowledge, supporting pollinators, and offering exceptional honey at fair prices. We break even, the bees thrive, and our customers leave a little more informed than when they arrived — which feels like a pretty sweet deal.
Let’s be honest — honey isn’t cheap. It takes thousands of bees flying countless miles, careful hive management, and a lot of human labor to responsibly harvest, bottle, and bring honey to market. With every jar, you also get a little education for free. I often encourage folks to think of honey as part of their wellness budget, not a grocery item. When used thoughtfully, its benefits go far beyond sweetness — and that’s a value we’re proud to stand behind.

BIL BEEKEEPER & HARVEST MASTER
In 2025, Susan (Nona's Sister) and her hubby Dave Burhman, moved to Haecker Farm to help us sort through 150 years of farm remnants and begin to formulate a plan for what the farm can be in its next chapter. Dave discovered a colony of bees living in an old Farm All tractor gear box and immediately (got stung) and became fascinated. It wasn't long before he suited up to help rehome a swarm and was hooked. Dave's keen eye from decades of master carpentry is a huge asset in all phases of bee keeping. Nona is especially grateful for the Burhman Grip he developed for uncapping honey frames!
