Honey: Hive to Harvest

What exactly is honey? How do bees make it? Why does it taste different from  location to location and season to season—and why on earth does it sometimes turn solid?  What does it mean for honey to be raw and unfiltered?  And what about the really hard questions - can honey be organic? is it vegan? kosher?

In Honey: Hive to Harvest, we follow honey’s journey from flower to hive to harvest table. Along the way, we’ll uncover the remarkable process of nectar gathering, curing, and storing—and why humans are lucky enough to share in what is truly the bees’ food supply.

Together we’ll explore:

  • How bees transform flower and tree nectar into honey

  • Why honey changes with season, weather, and location

  • How to “taste the place” where honey was made

  • Who the bees’ natural predators are—and the challenges they face

  • What you should know when buying honey at the grocery store vs. a farmers market

  • Why honey crystallizes and how to gently return it to a runny state if you prefer

We’ll finish with a guided honey flight, tasting several varieties side by side to discover how nectar source influences color, aroma, flavor, and texture. You’ll never look at a honey jar the same way again.

Curious, delicious, and full of “aha!” moments—this class is for anyone who loves honey, food, nature, or asking great questions. Come ready to taste, learn, and maybe even find a new favorite drizzle.
