World of Honey Bees:
Sweet Secrets of the Hive
What’s really happening inside a beehive—and what would our grocery stores look like without pollinators?
In this fun, all-ages class, we’ll explore the magic of honey bees, meet the queen, workers, and drones, and follow nectar’s journey from flower to honey jar. We’ll compare hobby and commercial beekeeping, uncover why managed hives matter, and answer questions you didn’t even know you had!
Plus, we’ll taste several farmstead honey varieties and discover how different flowers create different flavors.
Come curious. Leave buzzing.

Ever wondered what’s really happening inside a beehive? Or what your grocery cart would look like without pollinators?

In World of Honey Bees, we’ll peek inside one of the most fascinating—and important—creature communities on Earth. This lively, all-ages session explores the magic, science, and sweet surprises of honey bees and the critical role they play in our food system.

Together we’ll:
-
Discover how pollinators make possible many of the foods we love
-
Compare backyard (hobby) beekeeping with large-scale commercial operations
-
Peek inside the hive to meet the three types of bees—workers, queens, and drones—and learn who does what
-
Follow a worker bee from flower to hive as she gathers nectar and transforms it into honey
-
Talk about why we’re able to enjoy honey when it’s critical food for the survival of the colony
-
Explore bees’ preferred natural habitats—and why managed hives matter in today’s world
We’ll spend time appreciating the worker bee, the tiny powerhouse whose many jobs change as she ages. By the end, most people find they have far more questions than they ever imagined—and a whole new respect for the complexity of hive life.

And we’ll finish with a guided tasting of several farmstead honey varieties—because the best way to understand honey is to savor the differences yourself.
Curious minds of all ages are welcome. Come prepared to be amazed.
